The Pankratius Church in (Alt-) Stuhr is located in the north of the Diepholz district , one kilometer from the border with Bremen . The single- brick church was built largely in the 13th century to the beginning of the Gothic . The choir still has numerous Romanesque forms, which can also be found to a lesser extent on the nave that was built in the next construction phase. The west tower was added in the 14th century. The parish belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg , that in the neighboring district of Heiligenrode to the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover .

The church in Alt-Stuhr was badly damaged during the Second World War . Restorations took place in 1966 and 1992/1993.

All of the church's window reveals have stepped walls inside and outside , in some cases with different blind arches . All interior steps, except possibly on the tower, have been recently renewed. The buttresses on the north wall corners of the nave and choir are modern additions.

The somewhat retracted choir is considered the oldest part of the building. It has a window to the north and south and a group of three windows to the east . Its middle window sits in an ogival screen, all other arches are round. In the gable triangle of the east gable, the bricks are set in two broad bands of herringbone pattern . The choir yoke has a cross vault with delicate ribbon ribs , the only clearly pointed diagonal ribs in the church. The triumphal arch and the shield arches of the choir are rounded.

The windows of the ship all have ogival steps on the outside. The inner steps are ogival on the south side and round-arched on the north side. There is a walled-up pointed arch portal in the north wall. In front of the south portal there is an entrance porch, begun with a medieval brick format, but probably modern, which the parish calls the “children's house”. Today the west portal in the tower forms the main entrance. Under both eaves of the nave there is a frieze made of two different decorative shapes, above a tooth frieze , below a stepped frieze .

The three bays of the nave are separated from each other by round arches, but the shield arches on the inside of the long walls are pointed arches.

The sound openings of the windowless tower have basket arches . The eaves of the tower are only slightly above the ridge of the ship.

Furnishing

Organ gallery and north wall

Some frescoes have been preserved in the choir. One of the murals shows Saint George . The vaults not only of the choir are painted with plant ornaments.

The pulpit from 1615 is decorated with panels of the four evangelists .

The church received its first organ in 1760. The present organ was installed in 1954 and renewed in 1996.
