The panther fish ( Epinephelus altivelis , Syn .: Cromileptes altivelis ) is a perch from the grouper family . It is also called “paddle perch”, “panther perch” and “grace kelly perch” and in the wild it can reach a length of up to 70 centimeters.
habitat
Its habitat are the Indian and Pacific Oceans . There it lives in silted up lagoons and outer reefs, mostly near hiding places at depths of two to 40 meters.
Way of life
In the course of its development, the panther fish is first female, then changes its sex and becomes male ( proterogyny ). Because of this, the females are smaller. Its social behavior is peaceful towards fish of the same size and larger. The diet consists mainly of small fish and crustaceans .
breed
In Singapore , Indonesia and the Philippines , the perch are bred as food fish .
