Panzer Elite is a military simulation that appeared in Germany in 1999. It was developed by the software company Wings Simulations and distributed by Psygnosis . After Wings Simulations was sold to JoWooD , the game was available again as a special edition. In 2006 the successor Panzer Elite Action appeared.

Panzer Elite

The game is a tank simulation that recreates battles in North Africa, Italy and Normandy during World War II. The German or the allied side can be chosen. As a tank commander, you begin your campaign in North Africa ( Tunisia ) and are led through battles that are based on real events. It is important that as the boss of an armored train, in addition to the tactics in the field, one also has an eye on the supply between battles.

Game conception

Panzer Elite consists of 3D objects in the battle and three animated 2D scenes in the rest sequences depending on the country (Africa: desert camp, Italy: city crossing, Normandy: dirt road camp). In these scenes, replenishment and repairs are carried out with mouse clicks on the objects. The supply situation depends on the results of the battle and the course of the war. Important war events and changes are shown by films made from archive material. In contrast to today's simulations, individual soldiers in battle were shown as animated 2D objects (similar to cardboard comrades). Only the vehicles and houses were created as 3D models.

Special edition

After the takeover of Wings Simulations by JoWood, a special edition of the game was released, which also contained an Africa modification with British troops, which was created by fans.
