Paolo Antonio Rolli (born June 13, 1687 in Rome , † March 20, 1765 in Todi ) was an Italian poet and librettist.
life and work
Rolli lived in London from 1716. He wrote libretti for operas by Porpora , Bononcini and Handel , for the latter, for example. B. Il Floridante , Scipione , Alessandro and Riccardo Primo . Later there was an argument between him and Handel. Nevertheless, he worked again for this in 1740 when he wrote the libretto for Deidamia . It is considered his best work and his only one that is not an adaptation of an earlier poetry of the respective subject .
In 1729 he was elected a member of the Royal Society .
