Paolo Bozzi

Paolo Bozzi (born May 16, 1930 in Gorizia ; † October 10, 2003 in Bozen ) was an Italian psychologist , violinist and music theorist and is one of the most important representatives alongside Walter Gerbino (* 1951) and Giovanni Bruno Vicario (1932-2020) the “Trieste School” of Gestalt theory in Italy, which goes back to Gaetano Kanizsa and which he continued as Experimental Phenomenology . He received his training as a violinist from Rodolfo Lipizer. In 1960 Bozzi discovered the phenomenon of "auditory streaming" with Giovanni Bruno Vicario. Until 1999, Bozzi was Professor of Behavioral Sciences at the University of Trieste . Bozzi was the advisory editor of the international scientific journal Gestalt Theory , in which he published one last autobiographical article shortly before his death. In 2018, on the initiative of Ivana Bianchi (University of Macerata) and Richard Davies (University of Bergamo), an anthology of central works by Bozzi on experimental phenomenology was published in English translation.
