Parachaos is a genus of bare , amoeboid unicellular organisms from the Euamoebida group .
features
The species of the genus can move actively, they are usually polypodial (thus form many cell processes [ pseudopodia ] for movement), occasionally monopodial (form only one pseudopodia). Polypodial cells are 0.2 to 0.5 millimeters long, monopodial cells up to 0.9 millimeters.
All species are polynuclear with eight to fifty nuclei per cell. The cell nuclei are round to oval. The components of the nucleolus are formed as a wall-like layer or irregular fragments. Endosymbiotic zoochlorellae are often found . The cytoplasm contains numerous bipyramidal or platelet-like crystals. The uroid is usually shaggy onion-like.
Distribution, systematics
Parachaos species colonize fresh water. The type species is Parachaos zoochlorellae , which was first described in 1982 by Niels BSWillumsen as Chaos zoochlorellae . The genus Parachaos was then separated from Chaos in 1987 .
