Parallels, Inc. is a company founded in 1999 and now based in Renton , Washington , USA , which offers virtualization solutions for servers and workstations. The best known product is Parallels Desktop for Mac . Corel Corporation became the new owner on December 20, 2018 .

history

The company was part of the business customer-focused virtualization software provider SWsoft . The original company headquarters were in Herndon (Virginia) until September 2006 .

Parallels was best known in 2006 for its Mac Intel-based product Parallels Desktop for Mac , which was launched the day after Apple's Boot Camp was announced. Parallels uses the virtualization technology of the Intel Core architecture to allow transparent access to the processor.

Other Parallels products include a. the Parallels Workstation , a virtualization tool for Microsoft Windows and Linux, as well as the web server configuration tool Plesk , the Web Presence Builder and H-sphere .

In the period 2001-2003 Parallels expanded its general presence by delivering ready-made Plesk licenses for Windows and Linux servers to large ISP and hosting companies (such as Strato AG).

In March 2015, Parallels renamed the service provider division to Odin. In December 2015, the Odin division was sold to Ingram Micro for USD 163.9 million.

The Canadian software manufacturer Corel acquired the company in December 2018 .
