The Paralympic history of Iceland began with the 1980 Summer Paralympics , in which thirteen Icelandic athletes competed and one athlete each won a gold and a silver medal. Since then Iceland has participated in all the Summer Paralympics.

Despite the Icelandic climate and although Iceland participated in all Winter Olympic Games with one exception , the country has only participated in the Winter Paralympics three times to date ; after the games in 1994 in Lillehammer , in which Svanur Ingvarsson was the only Icelandic athlete, a sixteen-year break followed. At the Games in Vancouver in 2010 , Erna Friðriksdóttir was again a single athlete.

So far, Iceland has won 63 medals at the Paralympics, including 15 gold, 13 silver and 35 bronze medals.
