Lists on the subject

The Parang Latok (also Latok , Latok Buku , Parang Pathi ) is a sword of Dayak - peoples on the island of Borneo ( Bidayuh , Kayan , Kelabit , Kenyah , Iban , Ngaju , Penan and Punan ).

history

The Parang-Latok was developed by the tribes of Borneo. There are different types of swords in Borneo that bear the "first name" Parang ( Malay .: Sword). They are used as weapons and tools .

description

The Parang-Latok has a single-edged blade that widens towards the front towards the place (point). The blade is close to the booklet almost square (handle) and then a little wider. After a few centimeters the blade becomes thinner. From this point on the blade bends at an angle (see drawing). There is a ricasso between the handle and the point where the blade bends . The blade is about 50 cm long. The place is usually slightly rounded. The hilt (handle) has no quillons . The handle is usually made of wood and has a round cross-section. It is often wrapped in flattened rattan or provided with metal bands to reinforce the handle. The scabbards are mostly made of wood and decorated with traditional patterns. They only hide the Parang-Latok up to the curve of the blade. It is used with two hands in combat. The Parang-Latok is almost identical to the Parang-Pandit. The only differences are the shape of the point and the crossguard.
