Görlitz Oldtimer Park Railway

The train

The Görlitzer Oldtimer Parkeisenbahn was built as a pioneer railway in 1976 in Görlitz on the initiative of Hans-Rüdiger Eulitz '.

The railway was built with a gauge of 600 mm. The route forms an approximate oval that runs in a park and forest area southeast of Görlitz city center. There is also a branch to the parking facility. There is a stop for the public, the “Freizeitpark” station.

More than 80 companies helped materially and financially in the construction of the railway. The locomotive and the three open and three covered passenger cars were manufactured by Waggonbau Görlitz . The plant was opened on June 1, 1976.

As a special feature compared to other pioneer railways, vehicles were created for this railroad that are modeled on the first German railroad, the Ludwig Railway from Nuremberg and Fürth . That's how the railroad still runs today.

In May 1993 the railway was taken over by the association of the same name, which was founded in 1991. It has been operated by the association ever since.

During the time of the GDR , like all other pioneer railways in the GDR , the railway was operated by 10 to 15 children and young people - except in the areas relevant to safety. The sponsoring association tries to continue this pedagogical approach today. But there is a problem with young talent.
