The 2008 general election in San Marino took place on November 9, 2008.

Starting position

In June 2008, AP left due to disagreements within the coalition partners, the Party of Socialists and Democrats (PSD), the People's Alliance (AP) and the United Left (SU), the coalition and the cabinet collapsed. The PSD tried to form a close majority coalition with SU and San Marino for Freedom (SpL), but two dissenting members of the PSD left their party and founded Arengo and Liberta (AL), leaving the proposed coalition without a majority in parliament.

Government formation

The center-right alliance won the majority, but its members lost almost 3.5% together and the PDCS was no longer the strongest party for the first time since 1951 (and was last in 2018), despite the list merging with EPS and AeL.

The two alliances established shortly before the election collapsed in 2011 and San Marino returned to the old government alliance between Christian Democrats, Socialists and Liberals.
