The city is located in the fertile San Joaquin Valley about 30 kilometers southeast of Fresno, about 340 kilometers north of Los Angeles and about 320 kilometers southeast of San Francisco .

history

In 1876 a Parlier family, who came from Springfield, Illinois , settled on the site of the present city and gave the settlement its name.
