The Parlung Zangbo ( Parlung Tsangpo ) is a left tributary of the Yarlung Zangpo in the east of the Tibet Autonomous Region ( PR China ).
The river is fed by the Lhegugletscher . It flows through the lakes Ranwu Tso and Anmu Tso in the upper reaches . It flows in a westerly direction. The national road G318 follows the course of the river. The Parlung Zangbo takes the Bode Zangbo on the right side. 40 km above the estuary, the Yiwong Zangbo also meets the Parlung Zangbo from the right. The river then turns south and finally flows into the Yarlung Zangbo.
Use of hydropower
There are plans for several hydropower plants along the Parlung Zangbo river. in the downstream direction these are: Sumdzom (320 MW), Pome (580 MW), Sothang (840 MW) and Palong (2760 MW).
