Parodia ocampoi is a species of Parodia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet ocampoi means '(Latin ocamponis) from the location Ocampo'.

description

Parodia ocampoi grows strongly sprouting and forms up to 40 centimeters wide cushions. The dark green shoots are short cylindrical in shape. They grow to be 3 to 7 inches and 4 to 6 inches in diameter. They have 17 sharp-edged ribs . The areoles are gray. The thorns are reddish to light brown, often gray in color with age. A central spine is only 4 to 5 millimeters long. The radiating 8 to 9 radial spines are 4 to 10 millimeters long.

The flowers appear near the apex. They are golden yellow and up to 3 inches long. The pericarpel is covered with whitish wool and brown hair. The scar is light yellow. The spherical fruits are whitish to pink in color and about 4 millimeters in size. They contain black-brown to red-black, humped seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Parodia ocampoi is common in Bolivia in the departments of Cochabamba , Chuquisaca and Santa Cruz at altitudes between 1,300 and 2,300 meters.

It was first described in 1955 by Martín Cárdenas . Synonyms are Bolivicactus ocampoi (Cárdenas) Doweld (2000), Parodia zecheri var. Elachista (FHBrandt) FHBrandt (1983, nom. Inval. ICBN -Article 33.3) and Parodia zecheri subsp. Elachista (FHBrandt) FHBrandt (1988, nom. inval. ICBN -Article 33.3).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
