Parodia procera is a species of Parodia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet procera comes from Latin , means 'slim' and refers to the growth habit of the species.
description
Parodia procera usually grows individually or occasionally forms groups. The spherical to short cylindrical shoots reach heights of growth of up to 50 centimeters and diameters of 3 to 5 centimeters. The top of the shoot is woolen in white. There are ten to 13 ribs . The four crossed central spines are brownish and have a length of 1.5 to 2 centimeters. The lower central spine is sometimes hooked. The seven to nine hair-like, white radial spines have a darker tip and are 0.7 to 1.5 centimeters long.
The lemon-yellow flowers reach lengths of up to 3 centimeters. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with white hair at the lower end . The upper part of the flower tube is also covered with brown hair and bristles. The scars are light yellow. The red elongated fruits are 5 to 8 millimeters long and covered with noticeably long white wool. The fruits contain black seeds about 0.5 millimeters long, which are not very shiny and finely tuberous.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Parodia procera is common in the Bolivian departments of Chuquisaca and Tarija at altitudes of 600 to 2500 meters.
The first description by Friedrich Ritter was published in 1964. A nomenclatory synonym is Bolivicactus procerus (F.Ritter) Doweld (2000).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
