Parodia tenuicylindica is a species of plant in the genus Parodia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet taratensis is derived from the Latin words tenuis for 'slim' and cylindricus for 'cylindrical' and refers to the slender cylindrical shoots of the species.

description

Parodia tenuicylindica grows individually. The green to blue-green cylindrical shoots reach heights of 4 to 8 centimeters (rarely up to 14 centimeters) and a diameter of 2 to 3 centimeters. The 13 to 21 notched ribs are subdivided into cusps. The areoles on the tips of the cusps are covered with white wool. The straight thorns are strong, piercing and needle-like. The two to four brownish red central spines have lengths of 0.3 to 0.6 centimeters (rarely up to 1.5 centimeters). The bottom of them is occasionally more or less strongly hooked. The ten to 15 light yellow radial spines are 0.3 to 0.4 inches long.

The bright lemon yellow flowers reach lengths of 2.5 to 3 centimeters and diameters of 4 to 5 centimeters. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are almost entirely covered with white wool and yellow bristles. The scars are purple in color. The yellowish green fruits contain elongated black seeds that are humped.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Parodia tenuicylindica is common in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul and in Uruguay in the Departamentos Rivera , Artigas , Salto and Tacuarembó .

The first description as Notocactus tenuicylindricus by Friedrich Ritter was published in 1970. David Richard Hunt placed the species in the genus Parodia in 1997 . A nomenclature synonym is Notocactus minimus var. Tenuicylindricus (F.Ritter) Havlíček (1989).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
