The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1999 based on the name of the rocky promontory of the same name. Its namesake is Rear Admiral Cecil Ramsden Langworthy Parry (1901-1977), Secretary of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958).
