Parveen Babi ( Hindi , परवीन बाबी, Parvīn Bābī, born April 4, 1949 in Junagadh , † January 20, 2005 in Mumbai ; real name: Parveen Wali Mohammed Khan Babi ) was an Indian actress .

Life

The beauty, who comes from a noble family, made her debut in 1973 in Babu Ram Isharas Charitra and became one of the greatest stars of Hindi film from 1974 with her first successes Majboor and Deewaar . Both her western appearance and the violation of Indian conventions in the figures she portrayed on the canvas made her stand out from the competition. At the latest when Time magazine put Babi's picture on the cover in 1976, her status as a superstar was consolidated.

In the 1980s, their pulling power decreased. Parveen Babi also showed increasing signs of psychotic illness. Eventually she moved to the US for years and disappeared from the public eye. After her return to her Indian homeland, the externally very aged former diva made headlines when she publicly accused some of her former lovers and internationally known politicians , such as former US Vice President Al Gore , of killing her. She later accused a popular fellow actor of being behind a series of 1993 bombings in Mumbai. Her reputation and her personal powers of persuasion were still great enough to give weight to such claims. However, Parveen Babi did not appear at a court hearing on this matter.

On the afternoon of January 22, 2005, the apartment of the actress, who had only a few contacts, was opened because of the smell of putrefaction noticed by the neighbors and her body was found. The autopsy left no doubt that Parveen Babi had died naturally. Apparently she had also suffered from severe diabetes .
