Parviz Tanavoli (* 1937 in Tehran ) is an Iranian sculptor .

Parviz Tanavoli is one of the pioneers of contemporary sculpture in Iran. In addition to his artistic work, he is a collector and is considered a leading expert on the art of carpet in Iran . Parviz Tanavoli has lived in Vancouver , Canada since 1989 .

In his work Parviz Tanavoli deals with different aspects of the historical and cultural tradition of his country, one of his main themes being the question of “positive and negative space” (the nothingness (Heech, Hītsch) that becomes something through the artist's creative work ). Zanavoli wrote the first (if not the only) monograph on the Qashqai lion carpets . Another special topic in Tanavoli are castles and their symbolic meaning in the course of Iranian history.

His works can be seen in the permanent exhibitions of the British Museum , London , the Museum of Modern Art , New York , the Walker Art Center , Minneapolis and the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art .
