Pasquale Calapso

Pasquale Calapso (born April 12, 1872 in Carini , † May 3, 1934 in Messina ) was an Italian mathematician.

Calapso received his laureate at the University of Palermo from Francesco Gerbaldi in 1900 , where he was his assistant for over a decade. From 1914 he was Professor of Analysis at the University of Messina .

He dealt with differential geometry and especially deformation of quadrics.

In 1915 he received the Mathematics Prize of the Accademia dei XL .

In his spare time he was a good pianist. He founded the Philharmonic Orchestra in Messina and was its conductor for a long time. His son Renato Calapso (1901–1976) was also a mathematics professor in Messina.
