The Patie's Hill is a hill in the Pentland Hills . The 475 m high elevation is located on the eastern flank in the center of the approximately 25 km long range of hills on the western border of the Scottish Council Area Midlothian . The closest settlement is the hamlet of Carlops around one kilometer south. West Linton is three miles south and Penicuik is seven kilometers northeast. The surrounding hills include Mount Maw and Grain Heads in the southwest, Wether Law in the northwest and Spittal Hill in the north.
Along the southern flank runs the upper reaches of the North Esk , which eventually drains over the Esk into the Firth of Forth . To the northwest it is dammed to form the North Esk Reservoir .
Surroundings
There are two archaeological finds on the south flank of Patie's Hill. A flint ax is from either the Stone Age or the Early Bronze Age . In 1977 a small ax made of grayish-white stone material was found, which may have come from the area.
At the site of today's Spittal Farm on the western flank of Patie's Hill there was probably once a hospital ( Hospital ) or a recovery station for travelers from possibly the name of Spittal Hills derives. No traces of the building have been preserved, but a stone dating from 1641 is built into the barn of the farm, which could originally have come from the hospital.
