Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations discovered her on board the research vessel RRS William Scoresby in February 1936 and named her. The namesake is not known. Norwegian cartographers mapped it using aerial photographs taken during the Lars Christensen Expedition in 1936/37 . They were first visited in 1954 by a team led by the Australian geodesist Robert George Dovers (1921–1981) as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions .
