The Austnes Peninsula ( sometimes also Austnes Point in English ) is a short, wide and icy peninsula that marks the southeastern end of the Edward VIII Plateau and the north side of the entrance to Edward VIII Bay on the coast of the East Antarctic Cape .
Norwegian cartographers mapped them using aerial photographs taken from January to February 1937 during the Lars Christensen Expedition in 1936/37 . The name is derived from Norwegian and means something like "headland facing east".
