Patricia De Martelaere

Patricia De Martelaere (born April 16, 1957 in Zottegem ; † March 4, 2009 in Wezemaal, Rotselaar municipality ) was a Flemish writer and professor of philosophy.

Patricia De Martelaere studied philosophy at the Catholic University of Leuven and received her doctorate in 1984 with a dissertation on the Scottish philosopher David Hume . She taught at the Catholic Universities of Brussels and Leuven.

She has published several novels and collections of essays on philosophical, literary and psychological subjects.

She started her writing activity at the age of 14 with the youth book Koning der Wildernis (King of the Wilderness) . In 1988 her first novel Nachtboek van een slapeloze (Night Book of a Sleepless Man) appeared , which was awarded the prize for the best debut. De Martelaere received the most awards for her novel Het onverwachte antwoord (The Unexpected Answer) , published in 2004 .

De Martelaere died on March 4, 2009 at the age of 51 from complications from a brain tumor.
