Patricia Gibson
Patricia Gibson (born May 12, 1968 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish politician of the Scottish National Party (SNP).
Life
Gibson was born in Glasgow, where she grew up and went to school. She then attended Glasgow University , where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in English and Politics. For over 20 years she worked as an English teacher in Glasgow, Lanarkshire and East Renfrewshire . Gibson lives in Kilbirnie .
Political career
In 2007 Gibson was elected to the Glasgow City Council for the Pollok district for the SNP. There she acted as the SNP spokesperson for education.
In the British general election 2010 Gibson ran for the SNP in the constituency of North Ayrshire and Arran . On election day, however, she was unable to prevail against Labor MP Katy Clark , who had represented the constituency in the British House of Commons since it was introduced in 2005 . With the massive gains in votes by the SNP in the subsequent general election in 2015 , Gibson was able to win a majority of 53.2% and subsequently moved into the House of Commons for the first time. There she is a member of the Procedure Committee . Despite losing votes, Gibson maintained her mandate in the 2017 early general election .
