Gloria Patricia Nieto Nieto (born September 8, 1968 in Sonsón , a small town in the Colombian Department of Antioquia ) is professor of communication and journalism at the Universidad de Antioquia in Medellín . As a journalist, she publishes texts that can be assigned to the hybrid genre of journalistic chronicles. She belongs to the group of chroniclers who have come together to form the Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano founded by Gabriel García Márquez . She received her doctorate in 2013 from the Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Argentina, with a work on autobiographical narratives from the armed conflict in Colombia , based on examples from the recent history of Medellín. She received her master's degree in political science from the Universidad de Antioquia in 1998.

Since 2006 she has carried out numerous writing workshops with victims of the armed conflict that has characterized Colombia for 50 years. The possibilities of narrating the experiences of the victims of this violence and making them tangible have become the central theme of their work. She has compiled and published the results of these workshops in several books. Together with Natalia Franco and Omar Rincón, she wrote about the narrative strategies on which these stories can be based in a study financed by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation . Her latest book "Los escogidos" ("The Chosen") is also based on journalistic research into how violence has shaped the everyday life of many Colombians for decades. The book tells how the residents of Puerto Berrío , an important port city on the Río Magdalena , Colombia's economic lifeline, pick up the washed up corpses, bury them and take them in as part of their own families.

Many of her chronicles have appeared in renowned Colombian magazines. She also works as a documentary filmmaker. For example, she is the scriptwriter of a documentary that is important for dealing with the internal conflict, “No hubo tiempo para la tristeza” (There was no time to be sad). This film was made for the Colombian Center for Historical Remembrance. She also wrote the lyrics for the soundtrack for this film.
