Patrick Robert Carter, Baron Carter of Coles (* 9. February 1946 ) is a British politician of the Labor Party and member of the House of Lords .

life and career

Carter attended Brentwood School in Essex and graduated from Durham University . He graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts in economics and economic history.

He began his professional career in 1967 at Hambros Bank Ltd , where he worked until 1970. He then was director of Whitecross Equipment Ltd until 1975 . From 1975 to 1985 he was employed by MAI Ltd and for Westminister Healthcare plc from 1975 to 1999.

Carter held several honorary and charitable positions. From 1998 to 2002 he was a non-executive member of the Prisons Board / Strategy Board for Correctional Services and from 2002 to 2006 of the Home Office General Board . He was Chairman ( Chair ) of the National Athletics Review , the Review of Payroll Services , 2006 at the Criminal Records Bureau and 2008 the NHS - Pathology -Services . In 2009 he was Chairman of the Review of Courts Estate and also chaired the Competition and Co-operation Panel . He was also from 2002 to September 2006, Chairman ( Chair ) from Sport England .

Carter is director of McKesson Information Solutions UK Ltd , the insurance Primary Group Ltd. , Shareholders Executive and Castle Cover Limited and consultants ( Advisor ) from Warburg Pincus International Ltd .

In March 2012, there was a public discussion regarding conflicts of interest in his numerous activities, including for NHS Co-operation, Competition Panel (CCP) and the US “pharmaceutical giant” McKesson .

Membership in the House of Lords

Carter was appointed on 8 June 2004 Life peer as Baron Carter of Coles, of Westmill in the County of Hertfordshire appointed. This was done on the recommendation of Prime Minister Tony Blair . The official introduction to the House of Lords took place on June 22, 2004 with the support of Herbert Laming, Baron Laming and Norman Warner . He gave his inaugural address on November 12, 2004 on the subject of the aging society. His attendance at meeting days is in the middle range and increased somewhat from 2011 onwards.

He is the Chairman ( Chairman ) of the EU Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment Sub-Committee .

family

Carter, who lives in Hertfordshire , married Julia Katharine Helen Bourne in 1969, with whom he has two daughters. His hobbies include gardening, reading, walking, skiing, and the opera .

Carter was the best man at both of Jack Straw's weddings .
