Patrick Chappatte (* 1967 in Karatschi , Pakistan ) is a Swiss cartoonist who works for The New York Times , Le Temps , NZZ am Sonntag and Der Spiegel magazine .

Life

Patrick Chappatte was born the son of a Swiss and a Lebanese . He grew up in Singapore and Switzerland. In 1988 he became a caricaturist for the daily newspaper La Suisse in western Switzerland . His sharp drawings quickly caught on, so that when the hiring of La Suisse became apparent, he switched to L'Hebdo in 1992 . He also drew for Die Weltwoche , which had his caricatures on the front page every week. From 1995 to 1998 he lived in New York , where he worked for The New York Times Book Review and Newsweek . Then he returned to Switzerland. Today he draws for The New York Times , Le Temps , Spiegel and NZZ am Sonntag .

Chappatte publishes in French, English and German. In addition to his caricatures, he produces reportage comics . For example, shortly after the Gaza War in 2009, he visited the Gaza Strip and processed his impressions.

Patrick Chappatte lives in Geneva with his wife, television producer Anne-Frédérique Widmann, and their three children.
