Patrick Head

Sir Patrick Head (* 5. June 1946 in Farnborough , Hampshire , England ) is a British engineer and until the end of 2011 at the British Williams - 1 formula working team as a senior engineer. He is married with two children and lives with his family in London .

He gained experience early on when his father raced Jaguar sports cars in the 1950s . Head also attended the same school as the future racing driver James Hunt and the Lotus engineer Peter Wright , although the three never met in their youth.

First, he embarked on a military career. After school he attended the Old Royal Naval College in Dartmouth , but later studied mechanical engineering , first in Birmingham , then in Bournemouth and finally at University College in London.

Early in his career, he worked alongside John Barnard for Lola Cars and then for Ron Tauranac at Trojan . In 1977, Patrick Head joined Frank Williams as a senior engineer . A little later the company was sold to Walter Wolf . During his brief stint at Wolf Racing , Head worked with Harvey Postlethwaite . At the end of 1978 he left Wolf Racing and founded the Williams F1 team with Frank Williams . At the end of 2011, he withdrew entirely from the racing team he founded with Frank Williams. In 2019, his return in an advisory capacity was announced.
