Patrick Moster (born June 13, 1967 in Offenbach an der Queich ) is a former German cyclist , cycling trainer and official.

Life

In 1990 Moster, who started for RC Bellheim and competed in the 1993 cycling league for PSV Köln , became German runner-up in the amateur road race in 1997 for a second time. In 1993 he won the third stage of the Tour of Austria and in 1995 he finished third at the Flèche du Sud . In 1997 he won a stage and the overall ranking of the Tour of Tunisia . He was nominated three times for the UCI road world championships .

After the end of his active cycling career, Moster became the German national coach for road racing men under 23 as well as cyclo-cross men and juniors. On January 1, 2012, he succeeded the previous competitive sports director of the Association of German Cyclists , Burckhard Bremer .

During the Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 2021 he was a. as a supervisor for the individual time trial on the track. After Moster had clearly audibly shouted to the driver Nikias Arndt in front of the camera , “Get the camel drivers, get the camel drivers, come on”, he had to leave Tokyo after a decision by the German Olympic Sports Confederation . At the time of the statement, Arndt was behind his rivals Azzedine Lagab from Algeria and Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier from Eritrea . After the race, Moster apologized; he had misused his choice of words and did not want to discriminate against anyone. According to DOSB President Alfons Hörmann , Moster's “racist statement” violated Olympic values. The World Cycling Federation ( UCI ) issued a temporary suspension against Moster.
