Alfons Hörmann (born September 6, 1960 in Kempten (Allgäu) ) is a German sports official, entrepreneur and politician ( CSU ). Since December 2013 he has been President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation . He lives in Sulzberg in the Oberallgäu district . From January 2018 to April 2020 he was CEO of the Schöck Group . In 2020 he applied in vain for the office of District Administrator for the Oberallgäu district.

Professional career

Hörmann worked in the building materials industry from 1977 and held several management positions. From 1990 to 1998 he was Marketing / Sales Director at Creaton AG, and from 1998 to 2010 he was CEO. From 2011 to 2016 he was managing director of the Hörmann Holding, which happened to be of the same name . During this time he was also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Funkwerk AG .

In December 2013, the Düsseldorf Public Prosecutor's Office opened main proceedings for violating antitrust law, in which Hörmann was also threatened with a fine. Hörmann had always rejected the price-fixing accusation made by the Federal Cartel Office in 2008 ; the presidium of the DOSB saw no effects on his then successful candidacy for DOSB president "after a thorough examination". In May 2015, Hörmann admitted a mistake and accepted the fine of 150,000 euros issued by the Federal Cartel Office in 2008, plus around 75,000 euros in interest; Creaton AG was sentenced to a fine of 39.9 million euros.

In 1995 Alfons Hörmann was awarded the Bavarian Environmental Medal. In 2009 he received the State Medal for special services to the Bavarian economy .

Voluntary work in sport

From 2000 to 2002 he was chairman of the Allgäu and from 2002 to 2005 of the Bavarian Ski Association . He was Vice President of the Organizing Committee of the Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 in Oberstdorf . In 2005 he was elected President of the German Ski Association . In 2006 he took over the position of Vice President Marketing of the International Biathlon Union . In 2010 he was elected to the FIS Council. After Thomas Bach was elected IOC President, in October 2013 the professional associations of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) spoke out in favor of Hörmann as his successor in the DOSB presidency. On December 7, 2013 he was elected at the DOSB general meeting. Since then he has been President of the DOSB.

Political commitment

Alfons Hörmann was a local councilor from 1984 to 1996 and second mayor of the market town of Sulzberg from 1990 to 1996. From 2002 to 2014 Alfons Hörmann was a member of the district council and from 2008 to 2014 he was CSU parliamentary group leader in the Oberallgäu district. In 2020 he applied for the office of district administrator in the Oberallgäu district after he was unanimously chosen as the CSU candidate for the local elections in March 2020 . In the first ballot he was still clearly in the lead, but had to go to the runoff election, in which he was unsuccessful by Indra Baier-Müller from the free voters.

Private life

Alfons Hörmann has been married to Cordula Hörmann since 1984 and has three sons with her: Roland Hörmann, Chris Hörmann and Alex Hörmann. He is the founder and chairman of the Alfons Hörmann Foundation, which supports social, church and cultural projects. Alfons Hörmann is also the founder and chairman of the PROSPORT Foundation Allgäu-Kleinwalsertal.
