Patrick Reinhard Nielsen (born March 23, 1991 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish professional boxer in the super middleweight division .

Boxing career

Patrick Nielsen grew up in the Copenhagen suburb of Albertslund and started boxing at the age of 10. As an amateur, he won the light welterweight division in 2007, among other things, the Danish Cadet Championships and was Scandinavian junior runner-up in 2008. In 2009 he won the bronze medal at the Danish Elite Welterweight Championships.

At the age of 18 he switched to professional life and was signed by Sauerland Event . He trains in Copenhagen and Berlin under Karsten Röwer and former world champion Joey Gamache . He won his professional debut on September 12, 2009 by knocking out in the first round. In the following two years he won ten more fights in Denmark and Germany, including against boxers with positive records like Norbert Szekeres (6-1), János Varga (7-2), Adnan Salihu (5-0), Erik Awlastimow (5 -0) and Farouk Daku (15-1).

On December 17, 2011, he secured the IBF Youth World Championship in the middleweight division, after he had outdone the German-Russian Michael Schubow. After a knockout win in the first round against József Matolcsi (ended Mahir Oral's career in 2011 ), he won the intercontinental championship of the WBA im on April 21, 2012 by knocking out Gastón Alejandro Vega (17-4) Medium weight. In May 2012 he defeated the multiple Italian champion Gaetano Nespro.

He was able to defend the WBA title against the Spaniard Jose Yebes (11-2), the Belgian Jamel Bakhi (24-3), the Briton Patrick Mendy (14-5) and the Argentine Crispulo Andino (16-5). On September 7, 2013, he also won the WBO intercontinental championship . Already placed in 4th place by the WBA in their world rankings, he defeated the Pole Patrick Majewski (21-1) unanimously on points. On February 15, 2014 he won by knockout in the second round against Tony Jeter (16-3), the silver title of the WBC.

On June 1, 2014 he lost in the fight for the interim world championship of the WBA on points against Dimitri Tschudinow (12-0). In December 2014 he won against Poland's Łukasz Wawrzyczek (20-3). In March 2015 he won an early victory against George Tahdooahnippah (34-1) and thereby became International Champion of the WBA in the super middleweight division.

He defended this title in June 2015 on points against Charles Adamu (23-6). In December 2015 he won the third round against Rudy Markussen (39-3). In October 2017 Nielsen lost to British John Ryder (24-4) by knockout in the fifth round.

On April 28, 2018, Nielsen lost in the Offenburg Baden-Arena against Arthur Abraham (46-6) with twice 111: 116, once 114: 113, by split decision on points.

In 2011 he took part in the TV show Vild med Dans (Danish version of Let's Dance ), where he and his dance partner Claudia Rex came in second.

His younger brother Micki Reinhard Nielsen (born February 26, 1993) is also a professional boxer.
