Thomas Nicolai (born December 8, 1963 in Leipzig ) is a German comedian , parodist and actor .

Life

Thomas Nicolai spent his childhood in Leipzig, where his father Harry Nicolai worked from 1973 as a producer of dance music for the Leipzig broadcaster; Nicolai's mother Monika is a trained nurse and comes from a family of musicians and actors.

After finishing school in 1980, Nicolai began an apprenticeship as a pastry chef at what was then VEB Bako Leipzig. He practiced this profession until 1984. He then worked as a transport worker and orchestra manager for the Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra at the Leipzig broadcaster.

At the age of 17 he applied to the Leipzig Theater Academy , but was initially rejected. In 1984, after the fourth attempt, Nicolai finally passed the entrance exam at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin , where he studied acting from 1987 to 1991.

In the early 1990s, Thomas Nicolai could be seen as an actor at various Berlin theaters (including the Berliner Ensemble ). From 1991 to 1994 Nicolai was an actor at the Berlin GRIPS Theater . Since 1994 he has been working as a freelance comedian with his own programs.

Thomas Nicolai does comedy programs with a focus on parody and music. He also creates fictional characters such as the Saxon sweater wearer Patrick Schleifer . After operating under the name Der blonde Emil from 1990 to 2002 , Nicolai, who is also one of the regular moderators of the Quatsch Comedy Club , has only performed under his real name since 2003.

In addition to his comedic activity, he is active as a speaker for radio plays, dubbing roles, audio guides (Ludwig Cologne) and advertising. In 2012, Nicolai appeared in the pilot of a new news satire for First German Television , Das Ernste .
