The Patrimonium-Verlag is a Roman Catholic publisher based in Aachen and the Mariawald Abbey in Heimbach . It was founded in 2011. The main focus of the publishing program is philosophical, theological and historical literature.

Publishing history

The Patrimonium-Verlag was launched in 2011 as a "sister publisher" of the Bernardus Verlag, which has existed since 1988. The program management of the Patrimonium-Verlag - as well as the Bernardus-Verlag - is carried out by Frank Erich Zehles. In addition to the publishing headquarters in Aachen, Patrimonium-Verlag still operates a second office in the Mariawald Abbey , which is to be closed in 2018.

Programmatic focus

The publishing program is divided into seven thematically sorted editions. In detail these are:

Patrimonium Cisterciense

The Edition Patrimonium Cisterciense includes works that are intended to examine and keep alive the rich Cistercian heritage and the associated sources. The works published here therefore not only include classical texts, but also previously unpublished evidence of Cistercian spirituality. In the Patrimonium Cisterciense, for example, the Rerum liturgicarum Libri Duo by the important Cardinal Giovanni Bona (1609–1764) was translated by the classical philologist Heinz Piesik and published in a new edition with commentary.

Patrimonium Classicum et Orientalisticum

The Edition Patrimonium Classicum et Orientalisticum includes works from the fields of Classical Philology, Classical Philology and Ancient History. Among other things, the theologian Otto-Hubert Kost, who died in 2015, published titles in this edition on the myth of narcissus, who fell in love with himself, and the figure of Christophorus .

Patrimonium Historicum

The focus of the Edition Patrimonium Historicum is church history, but works from all other areas of historical studies are also published here. This also includes the Propylaea of the Christian Occident series published since 2016 by the Berlin church historian Michael F. Feldkamp .

Patrimonium Musicum

The Edition Patrimonium Musicum is the department for books from the subject area “Music of Christian-Occidental Culture” with a focus on “Catholic Church Music”. The reprints and new publications published here make Gregorian chant, for example, accessible to laypeople and experts.

Patrimonium Philosophicum

As the name suggests, the Patrimonium Philosophicum edition contains works on the subject of philosophy. The task is to preserve the "everlasting tradition of thought and interpretation of the world" of medieval scholasticism , understood as the development of Platonic and Aristotelian thought motifs under Christian auspices. The authors who have published in the Edition Patrimonium Philosophicum include Walter Hoeres and Josef Seifert .

Patrimonium Poeticum

In the Patrimonium Poetcium, in addition to poetry, primarily prose works appear, but also studies with literary and language-critical claims.

Patrimonium Theologicum

In view of the Christian-Catholic profile of the Patrimonium Verlag, the Edition Patrimonium Theologicum is the most extensive series in the range in terms of numbers. Theology is understood as “intellectus fidei”, that is, the “reasonable insight into the faith of the church”. The Edition Patrimonium Theologicum selects works from the “rich treasure of tradition” that can be accessed even without special technical requirements and that deal with topics of particular importance in the “current debates”.
