Patriots' Day

The Patriots 'Day (officially Patriots' Day in Massachusetts and Wisconsin , German Day of Patriots and Patriot's Day in Maine , German Day of the Patriots ) is a state holiday in the US states of Massachusetts, Wisconsin and Maine. It has been set for the third Monday in April since 1969 and commemorates the anniversary of the battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775, one of the first battles of the American Revolutionary War . April 19 is also an "historically important day" in Florida law that everyone is called to celebrate, but not as an official holiday.

Accompanying events

The battles are re-enacted annually in Lexington and Concord , which regularly attracts many onlookers and tourists. A highlight is the reenacted ride by Paul Revere and William Dawes from Lexington to Concord.

The Boston Marathon takes place annually in Boston on the occasion of the holiday , so the holiday is also known there as Marathon Monday . In 2013 the sporting event was overshadowed by an attack .

The Boston Red Sox games have been scheduled since 1959 to have a home game at Fenway Park on Patriots' Day .
