Patsy Ruth Miller (born January 17, 1904 in St. Louis , † July 16, 1995 in Palm Desert ) was an American actress .

Live and act

She was the daughter of Oscar Winston Miller (1875-1939) and Sadye Loewen Miller (1880-1928). Her younger brother was the silent film actor, screenwriter and television producer Winston Miller .

Miller, star of the silent film era, has appeared in over 70 films. Among other things, she played on the side of Rudolph Valentino and Lon Chaney . In 1922 she was chosen as a promising young star among the WAMPAS Baby Stars of the Year.

Miller's most important role was that of the dancing gypsy girl Esmeralda in The Hunchback of Notre-Dame .

In 1931 she retired from the film industry and became a writer.

Miller was married three times. Her first marriage to the director Tay Garnett lasted from 1929 to 1933. Her second with the screenwriter John Lee Mahin from 1937 to 1946. With the businessman Effingham Smith Deans from 1951 until his death in 1986.

Miller died in 1995 at the age of 91 in her Palm Desert home.
