Paugnut State Forest is a state forest in the US state of Connecticut in the area of ​​the parishes of Torrington and Winchester . The Arts and Crafts- style administration buildings of the forest were built in 1937 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and are located in what is now Burr Pond State Park . The Paugnut Forest Administration Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 5, 1986 . Further historical traces are the foundations of Gail Borden's condensed milk factory on Burr Pond. They date from 1857.

The forest lies on the heights above the valley of the Still River , which flows southwest to northeast and flows into the Farmington River . The Walnut Mountain at 1310 ft (402 m) above sea level is the highest elevation.

The forest is crossed by several hiking trails. The John Muir Trail connects Burr Pond State Park and Sunnybrook State Park , which are directly adjacent to the forest to the north and south, respectively.
