Paul Aymé

Paul Aymé (born July 29, 1869 in Marseille , † July 25, 1962 in Madrid ) was a French tennis player .

Career

From 1897 to 1900, Aymé won the Championnat de France International de Tennis (now the French Open ) four times in a row, which has only been awarded to the Swede Björn Borg (from 1978 to 1981) and the Spaniard Rafael Nadal (who even twice from 2005 until 2008 and from 2010 to 2013).

In 1897 he beat the Briton Francky Wardan in four sets with 6: 7, 7: 5, 6: 3 and 6: 1. In 1898 he defeated the French Paul Lebreton in five sets with 0: 6, 6: 1, 6: 0, 5: 7 and 8: 6 and in 1899 in five sets with 9: 7, 5: 7, 6: 0, 9: 11 and 7: 5. In 1900 he won against the Frenchman Alain Prévost in an even final in three sets with 6: 4, 10: 8 and 24:22.

Only Max Décugis and Rafael Nadal with eight titles each, Björn Borg with six and Henri Cochet with five titles were more successful than him in Roland Garros.

Aymé was one of the best French tennis players of his time.
