Paul Belous
Paul Belous (born February 22, 1923 , † July 9, 2009 ) was a native of Ukraine , a German martial arts teacher .
Military activity
During the German occupation of Ukraine in World War II , Belous joined the German military in 1942 and became an instructor in hand-to-hand combat. Because of an injury he came to Germany and was then used in the Navy. After the end of the war and imprisonment, he worked for some time as a boxing trainer in Duisburg before he worked for the British military, including as a hand-to-hand combat instructor.
Civil and police martial arts training
Paul Belous has been teaching Asian martial arts in Cologne since 1959 . In 1967 he founded the Jiu-Jitsu hand-to-hand combat school "Taifun" . His school specializes in real self-defense based on the Japanese martial art Jiu Jitsu and Chinese temple boxing . Since the school was founded, a number of Dan bearers have been trained, some of which founded schools themselves.
Paul Belous awarded the current national trainer and president of the German Jiu Jitsu Federation Dieter Lösgen the 10th Dan. He was also one of the founding members of the DJJB.
He was the first hand-to-hand combat trainer for the Special Operations Command (SEK) in Cologne and held this position from 1975 to 1984. In 1998 he was appointed "Police Chief Commissioner hc".
In the martial arts scene, Paul Belous was best known for his self-defense courses with combat techniques in the military and civilian areas, which he still gave himself when he was over 80 years old. The Cologne Melee School Taifun, founded by Paul Belous in 1959, was under his direction for 50 years - until his death - and is the main teaching facility of the International Association for Asian Martial Arts in Germany .
Awards and honors
- In Jiu Jitsu, Paul Belous was awarded the 10th Dan , which was given to him on August 28, 1980 by the Austrian grandmaster Josef Ebetshuber (10th Dan Jiu Jitsu, 7th Dan Judo, and other graduations; * December 16, 1905 in Schwechat ; † May 23, 1988 in Vienna ) on behalf of the organization World Jiu Jitsu Vienna .
- On January 5, 1974, Hans-Gert Niederstein awarded Paul Belous with the Erich-Rahn Memorial Medal , which is one of the highest honors of the Corporation of International Danträger .
