Paul Bruger

Paul Bruger (born November 27, 1872 in Kamenz , † November 11, 1960 in Bautzen ) was a German teacher , local politician and local researcher .

Life

Paul Bruger was the oldest child of five siblings and grew up with foster parents after the early death of his father. First he attended the village school in Spittel near Kamenz, then after moving to Dresden the local Catholic community school. From 1886 he attended the Catholic teacher training college in Bautzen and then from 1892 worked as a primary school teacher in Reichenau near Zittau, Radeberg and Leipzig . At the University of Leipzig he took up a working course and took lectures in geography, history, German, pedagogy and philosophy.

In 1901 he returned as a teacher at the Catholic teachers' college in Bautzen, where he became a senior teacher in 1908 and a teacher in 1924.

Bruger was from 1918 in Bautzen city councilor and in 1920 the City Council as Head of the Department of Education, museum and theater matters. He headed the department for almost 15 years until the National Socialists deposed him.

After 1945 he taught at the Bautzen Business School, was again a city councilor and from 1945 to 1948 headed the district and local association of the CDU . Towards the end of the 1940s, he had to resign from all offices for health reasons.

Paul Bruger was a co-founder of the Society for Prehistory and History of Upper Lusatia in Bautzen , participated in prehistoric excavations and wrote numerous articles on Lusatian art history, which appeared in the Bautzener Geschichtshefte and in the Bautzener Tageblatt , among others .

His grave is in the Nikolaifriedhof in Bautzen.
