Paul Christoffel (born April 25, 1960 ) is a Swiss former ice hockey player .

Career

Paul Christoffel grew up in Arosa and went through all league levels at EHC Arosa . As a 17-year-old he was involved in the promotion to the NLB . In his junior years he was also a member of the national team, where he scored two goals to 2-0 against the Czech national team and brought Switzerland the victory. During the time under coach Rudolf Killias there were disagreements, which is why Christoffel stopped playing ice hockey.

The new coach Lasse Lilja brought him back into the squad of EHC Arosa. So things went up in the NLA in the 1979/80 season , the EHC Arosa was traded as a relegation candidate at the beginning of the season, but the young team achieved the Swiss championship title in 1980 with good performances . After this success, Paul Christoffel moved to EHC Kloten .

In the 1981/82 season he switched to EV Zug , where Christoffel developed into a leading player, rose with this club from the 1st division to the NLA and then played one more season in the top division in 1987 under Andy Murray . During these seven years at EV Zug, he played with Ivan Hlinka , Mats Waltin , Milan Kajkl , Don Laurence and Steve Jensen . In the eternal scorer list of EV Zug he landed after 25 years with 233 games and 159 scorer points in eighth place, after 50 years still in 11th place. He was elected a free member of the EVZ after only five years of active activity.

In the new ice hockey arena in Zug, Paul Christoffel was also included in the "Wall of Fame", which only includes players with outstanding performance.

After these years at EV Zug, Paul Christoffel from SC Rapperswil-Jona from NLB was signed for two years. After a serious wrist injury, Paul Christoffel was only able to play with a specially made splint, which impaired his technical skills so much that he could no longer achieve his usual playing performance. The HC Martigny brought him despite this severe injury to the Valais. But he moved back to the NLA for HC Lugano before the playoff games . With Lugano he was again Vice Swiss Champion in 1990.

The new first division club EHC Seewen got a new coach in Constantin Stoffel, who had played with Christoffel at EV Zug. This asked him in 1991 to add another season so that the EHC Seewen would have the chance to hold the first division. They also succeeded. With this last success he ended his career.

Paul Christoffel was elected to the All-Star-Team in the anniversary year 2017 on the occasion of "50 years of EVZ" together with Wes Walz and Henrik Zetterberg as strikers, the defenders Rafael Diaz and Dino Kessler and the goalkeeper Lars Weibel .
