Milan Kajkl

Milan Kajkl (born May 14, 1950 in Pilsen , Czechoslovakia ; † January 18, 2014 ibid) was a Czechoslovak ice hockey player who played for Škoda Plzeň and the Czechoslovak national team on the position of defender for many years .

Career

Milan Kajkl began his career in 1965 in the offspring of Škoda Plzeň, before he was drafted into the military for two years in 1969 and played for the army club ASD Dukla Jihlava . With Jihlava he became Czechoslovakian champion in 1970 and 1971 . Between 1971 and 1982 he played again for Plzeň in the top division of the ČSSR, the 1st league . During this time he usually formed a defender couple with Bohuslav Ebermann . It was not until 1982 that he received permission to move to western countries because of his services. His first stop abroad was in the 1982/83 season at EC Klagenfurt AC . A year later he moved to EV Zug in the National League A , where he ended his career in 1984. In the top division of Czechoslovakia, Kajkl completed a total of 445 league games in 12 seasons and scored 48 goals.

In addition to his career at club level, Milan Kajkl also had great success in international championships. With the Czechoslovak men's selection , he won one medal at the Winter Olympics and four medals at world championships . In 1969 he won the bronze medal at the European Junior Championships with the U19 selection of the ČSSR .

He received his first appointment to the men's national team for the ice hockey world championship in 1975 , where he became vice world champion. At the world championship in 1976 he became world champion with the ČSSR selection. In the same year he took part in the 1976 Canada Cup and was appointed to the squad for the 1976 Winter Olympics , where he won the silver medal. At the world championship in 1977 he was again world champion and 1978 vice world champion. In the national jersey , he mostly played in a row with Jiří Bubla and scored two goals for Czechoslovakia in 106 international matches.

Kaijkl died in his hometown of Pilsen at the age of 63.
