Rudolf Killias

Rudolf Killias (born February 18, 1943 in Zillis , Graubünden , † February 3, 2010 in Zurich ) was a Swiss ice hockey coach who coached the national teams of Switzerland and Austria during his career . At club level he was also active in both countries and led EV Innsbruck to the Austrian championship title .

Career

The Swiss born in Graubünden was a nephew of the legendary Grisons striker Richard Torriani . Killias began his coaching career relatively early; his first success was in 1970 the promotion to the national league A with HC Ambrì-Piotta . From 1973 to 1977 he was the Swiss national coach, from 1980 to 1986 he was the Austrian national coach behind the gang. The greatest success here was the qualification with the Austrian selection for the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo . In between the Graubünden had worked as head coach of the EHC Arosa and EHC Chur , but had been relieved of his office prematurely at both stations. He also briefly oversaw the Italian national team during the 1986/87 season . In 1989 EV Innsbruck won the seventh championship title in the club's history under Killias.

Later, Killias was, among other things, technical director of the Federazione Italiana Sport del Ghiaccio , the Italian ice sports federation, and served as an instructor for the international ice hockey federation . As an author, he published, among other things, the work Powerplay - 100 Years of Swiss Ice Hockey .
