Dietrich Brauer (Cyrillic: Дитрих Борисович Брауэр; born January 3, 1983 in Vladivostok ) is a Russian Lutheran theologian and since 2011 Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of European Russia (ELCER). and since 2014 also Archbishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Russia (ELCR).

Life

Dietrich Brauer comes from a Russian-German family who moved from Vladivostok to Moscow a few years after his birth . As a student he trained at a music school and began after his schooling a law degree .

From 2001 to 2005 Brauer studied Protestant theology at the Theological Seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Central Asia (ELKRAS) in Novosaratovka near St. Petersburg and then took over - together with his wife, Pastor Tatjana Petrenko - the Parish at the Salzburg Church in Gussew (Gumbinnen) in the provost of Kaliningrad , to which eight parishes in the former East Prussia belong. In 2010 Brauer was appointed episcopal visitor to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of European Russia (ELKER).

The 17th synod of ELKER elected Dietrich Brauer on March 10, 2011 in Moscow- Pushkino as its bishop and thus successor to Edmund Ratz . On March 12, 2011 he was introduced to his office in the main church of St. Peter and Paul in Moscow by the Archbishop of ELCRAS, August Kruse . He is the youngest and also the first native bishop of a Lutheran church in Russia. On September 12, 2011, Brauer was also elected by the general synod of the ELCRAS in St. Petersburg, initially as deputy archbishop and on September 18, 2014 as archbishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Russia (ELCR).

Dietrich Brauer is married to Pastor Tatjana Petrenko and has two children.
