Paul Colin (artist)

Paul Colin (* 27. June 1892 in Nancy , † 18th June 1985 in Nogent-sur-Marne ) was a French graphic designer , decorator and painter . He was known internationally for his poster designs .

Life

Paul Colin was a student of Eugène Vallin and Victor Prouvé . The beginning of his work was still very much influenced by Art Deco , until he later found his own, very personal style. He was the designer of more than 1,400 posters, numerous stage sets and costumes. His work attracted international attention: in 1964 he was invited to documenta III in the graphics department in Kassel .

As an admirer and lover of Josephine Baker , he designed the posters for her Revue Nègre in 1925 . For more than 40 years he designed posters for their performances, as well as numerous sets and costumes. He also provided 30 illustrations for Josephine Baker's memoir.
