Paul Deegener

Johannes Paul Benjamin Deegener (born January 15, 1875 in Strausberg , † July 7, 1949 in Berlin ) was a German zoologist and entomologist .

origin

His parents were the pastor Johannes Adolf Karl Paul Deegener (* July 2, 1839 Uckermark ; † December 5, 1898 Saal) and his wife Hulda von Bequignolles (* July 12, 1840 Königsberg ; † December 22, 1925 Berlin ).

Paul Deegener had three children: Irmela, Ingeborg and Ulrich Deegener.

Life

After attending the humanistic grammar school , he studied at the University of Berlin and received his doctorate in 1900 with the dissertation Development of the tools from Hydrophilus . 1901-1918 he worked as an assistant at the Zoological Institute of the University of Berlin. After his habilitation on March 5, 1904, he worked as a lecturer in entomology from 1918 and was appointed associate professor of zoology at the University of Berlin in 1922 (relinquished on March 4, 1941). At the same time he taught as deputy chairman at the adult education center in Großberlin . He was also a scientific adviser to the zoological student council, a member of the German Zoological Society and the Entomological Society in Halle , founded in 1908 , as well as a member of the Combat League for German Culture (KfdK) founded in 1928 . For specialist books and magazines he wrote numerous articles on developmental history, entomological, animal sociological and general biological content.

He found his final resting place in the south-west cemetery in Stahnsdorf .
