Paul Ehlers

Paul Wilhelm Georg Ehlers (born March 1, 1854 in Wolfenbüttel , † February 26, 1934 in Horn-Lippe ) was a German hydraulic engineer.

Life

Paul Ehlers studied civil engineering at the technical universities of Hanover and Braunschweig . In 1877 he became a member of the Corps Hannovera Hannover . In 1880 he completed his studies in Braunschweig. Then he entered the civil service. As a government builder, he worked for the Ministry for Alsace-Lorraine and was involved in the preliminary planning of the Strasbourg-Ludwigshafen Canal. In 1888 he was given the task of redesigning and repairing the Oder dike, which had been damaged by drift ice . After successful implementation he was director of the Oder river administration in Crossen from 1889 to 1904 . In 1904 he received a call to the Technical University of Danzig as a professor of hydraulic engineering. There he worked on improving the East German channels based on practical methods, placing correct and economic planning in the foreground. He was also involved in the planning and construction of various hydropower plants.
