Paul Fuhrmann (born October 8, 1893 in Spandau , † January 28, 1952 in Berlin ) was a German painter .

Life

After the early death of his parents, Fuhrmann grew up in an orphanage. From 1912 to 1915 he studied with Emil Orlik at the teaching institute of the Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin . From 1915 he was a soldier, but was imprisoned several times for his rebellion against military service . After the war, he and Oskar Nerlinger founded the group Die Zeitgemäße , whose secretary he was until 1933. In 1927 he became a member of the KPD and in 1929 of the ASSO . Between 1922 and 1925 he took part in several exhibitions in Herwarth Walden's Sturm-Galerie and from 1926 to 1933 in the annual Great Berlin Art Exhibitions . In 1933 he was banned from exhibiting and in 1937 two of his works were confiscated as part of the “ Degenerate Art ” campaign. In 1946 he was a founding member of the Association of Socialist Artists with Fritz Duda .
