Paul Henry Ginsparg (born January 1, 1955 ) is an American physicist and professor at Cornell University . About his art, he is best known for the development of preprint - archive arXiv.org .

Life

In 1977 he received his bachelor's degree in physics from Harvard University and completed his doctorate in theoretical particle physics in 1981 at Cornell University with Kenneth Geddes Wilson ( Aspects of Symmetry Behavior in Quantum Field Theory ). Until 1984 he was with the Harvard Society of Fellows and then until 1990 Assistant and Associate Professor in the Faculty of Physics at Harvard. He then worked as a research assistant in the theory department of Los Alamos National Laboratory . Since 2001 he has been Professor of Physics and Computer Science at Cornell University.

He works in the field of quantum field theory , string theory , conformal field theory and quantum gravity . He is the recipient of the PAM Award (physics astronomy mathematics) of the Special Libraries Association (1998) and has been a Fellow of the American Physical Society since 2000 . From 1986 to 1990 he was a research fellow of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation ( Sloan Research Fellow ). In 2002 he received a MacArthur Fellowship .
