Paul Hehlen (born January 7, 1921 in Lenk ; authorized to live there and in Boppelsen ) is a Swiss painter.

Career

Paul Hehlen was the seventh of ten children of master carpenter Gottlieb Hählen and his wife Sophie. After finishing school, he began a partial apprenticeship as a woodworker in Huttwil and as a carpenter with his father. Because of the poor economic situation during the Second World War, he first had to accept various casual positions. After the recruit school , he was sent to the border on active duty. On the advice of a teacher, he took an entrance examination for structural engineering at the Burgdorf technical center, where he graduated with a diploma in 1944 despite military service. He then worked in various architectural offices, mostly in school building.

He also studied painting as a self-taught artist and began painting himself from 1957. At first he painted in a simplified, impressionistic way, then expressively, and increasingly abstract. He went on study trips to New York City , Paris , Burma , Thailand and Japan and won a competition award from the City of Baden AG .

In 1946 he married Erna Widler von St. Gallen . The first child died after a short time, later came the two daughters Ruth and Eva.
